Limerick City Adult Education Service (LCAES) works with local youth work organisations and groups to support the development of quality Youth Work programmes, services and facilities in the Limerick area. It manages this through a Youth Work Scheme and under the provisions of the Youth Work Act (2001). Youth Work is defined in the above Act as:
“A planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and enhancing the personal and social development of young people through their voluntary participation, which is complementary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training; and provided primarily by voluntary youth work organisations”
A CLVEC Youth Work Plan (3 years) is currently being prepared by the LCAES Youth Officer in conjunction with a range of local community, voluntary and statutory partners. It is envisaged that this plan will bring co-ordination and direction to youth work in Limerick City in the coming years.
A number of targeted grants are administered under the VEC’s Youth Work Scheme. If you are working with young people in Limerick City you may be able to apply for funding through one of these schemes. Find out more by clicking on

******** Regeneration
Regeneration agencies were established in 2007 on the North, South side and St Mary’s area of the City to oversee the Planning and Implementation of comprehensive and integrated Master Plans for the city.
Rapid - The RAPID Programme is a Government initiative, which targets 45 of the most disadvantaged areas in the country. The Programme aims to ensure that priority attention is given to the 45 designated areas by focusing State resources available under the National Development Plan. The Programme also requires the Government Departments and State Agencies to bring about better co-ordination and closer integration in the delivery of services. There are three Rapid areas in the city which mirror regeneration areas
